Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer just dropped amid much hype, and I knew I had to try it out for you asap.
Too Faced claims “A hydrating, full-coverage, weightless, four-in-one formula that conceals, contours, highlights, and retouches… Its doe-foot applicator allows for perfectly-precise application. The weightless formula hydrates skin—so it’s never dry or cakey. It’s noncomedogenic, photo-friendly and flashback-free, and wears for up to 12 hours.”
The first thing I noticed is the the bottle is huge. You get 0.5 fluid ounces of product, about half the amount of an average foundation bottle. So you get a ton of concealer, which is awesome. There is a large doe foot applicator attached to the lid, which holds a considerable amount of product, so you will only want to dab the tiniest amount onto your skin, or use a brush for more precise areas. Otherwise you end up with way too much product, and I have found this concealer works best applied in a thin layer that is blended out with a damp Beauty Blender.
I would say the coverage of Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer is medium to full. On my normal-to-dry skin it wears all day and does not crease when set with powder (my favorite powder with this is Ben Nye Luxury Powder in Cameo.) I did not experience any flashback with flash photography. I wouldn’t say it’s hydrating. I mean really, what concealer that actually conceals is? But it is not drying or cakey on me, although I could definitely see it getting cakey or wearing poorly if you are using too much product. A THIN LAYER IS KEY!
I did not try highlighting or contouring with it because the range does not go light enough (more on that soon) or cool enough in order to create natural-looking contour shadows.
I am impressed that Too Faced launched with a solid 20 shades from fair to deep. While I can’t speak to the utility of the deeper shades, I greatly appreciate that they tried to include both fair and deep shades rather than the typical industry-wide over-representation of the light to medium range. #50ShadesofBeige
I have the lightest shade, Swan, which is described as “fairest neutral”. It isn’t that light (sadly it is a bit too dark for me), and is fairly yellow toned. I would love to see Too Faced expand to include more genuinely fair shades (I feel that most cosmetic companies really don’t understand what “fair” and “fairest” skint tones really look like) as well as more neutral and cool shades. Personally speaking, even though my skin tone is very neutral, I still love a cooler pink concealer under my eyes as it is very brightening. So I would also love if Too Faced even added color-correcting shades including icy pink and icy pink-peach to the collection.
The Bottom Line:
Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer is a damn good formula, you get a ton of product, and it is both cruelty-free and vegan to boot! The color range may be problematic for those with very fair and/or cooler skin, but I hope they will be releasing more shades and possibly even color correctors in this formula in the future. While I haven’t tried the infamous Tarte Shape Tape because it is not available in Canadian stores, Too Faced may very well have a dupe that we can easily get here and try-on in store.
I give the Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer 4.5/5 stars. Try it, just keep your layer thin!
